Biography
Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev was born on May 17, 1953, in Almaty, Kazakh SSR. He is a Kazakh statesman and politician, and the current President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Education
1970–1975 — Studied at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), Faculty of International Relations.
Completed internships in Beijing and Singapore, studying Chinese and international diplomacy.
Career
1975–1992 — Diplomatic service in the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs, serving in embassies in Singapore and China.
1992–1999 — Deputy Minister, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
1999–2002 — Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
2007–2011 — Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.
2011–2019 — Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Presidency
March 20, 2019 — Inaugurated as President of the Republic of Kazakhstan following the resignation of Nursultan Nazarbayev.
2019 and 2022 — Elected President of the Republic of Kazakhstan in popular elections.
